More Ramblings

I came across a quick blurb about how you can be arrested by Beans & Franks in Memphis. It might be a little pixilated, but here's a pic of Beans and Franks.

In trying to broaden my web development mind, today I delve into smarty, hopefully to find something useful.

Movie Games

02.21.2003

After inadvertantly having fun chaining movie titles together yesterday, I started looking for a good movie trivia game.

I've been looking for a good movie trivia game for a while. Unfortunately, most of the fall under either some form of charades or it's all Disney trivia (and I suck at Disney trivia). While walking though CompUSA, I spied a game called Scene It. They have sample questions available online, and it mostly reminds me of You Don't Know Jack, which I played more than I want to admin on the PC.

The drawback is that it's $50, and I just don't think it's really worth that much. There's one for sale on eBay that's at $34 including shipping right now. That may be about the right price...

Time For More Movies

02.20.2003

I was browsing the upcoming dvds at Amazon to see what's coming out, mainly because the pickings of anything I've wanted have been rather slim of late. My biggest surprise was that my favorite &qout;concert film" of all time, Prince's Sign O'The Times, is finally being released on DVD. Unfortunately, from reading the small print from a reviewer, it may be a bootleg version. Jer and I have pretty much worn out the tape that I got of SOTT from the video store I used to work at.

Along the way, I was searching my inventory of what movies I have, seeing if there's anything I'm missing that I thought I had. The first one I've found: Escape From New York. I could have sworn I had that one. Looks like I'm going to have to fix that. And even though it wasn't as good, I probably need to pick up Escape From L.A., just to keep the series complete. Luckily, that has no relation to To Live and Die in L.A..

Easter Egg Fun

02.19.2003

While writing some code yesterday, I was having some fun with the comments. Like most programmers, I am usually sparse on useful comments in my code, but this particular file is a black box that I'm proud of, mainly because of how resilient it's been so far. I was typing "when a quote becomes an order" and suddenly started humming one of the old Schoolhouse Rocks songs about the bill that wanted to become a law. A quick Google search later and I had found the lyrics to the song. Easy to find, but still brings a smile to my face.

When I used to see the little cartoon on Saturday mornings, way back when, I used to always feel sad for little Bill. I guess it was the way he sang. I just always got choked up. Poor bill.

But now I wonder if anyone will ever see my ode to Bill in my comment?

Mindless Ramblings

02.18.2003

Luckily the week is turning out better than I thought would (see yesterday). The only truly bad part of yesterday was a headache that just wouldn't go away. Stupid old man mutantabilities of weather forecasting!

While trying to get rid of my headache I channel surfed last night. I kept stopping on Fear Factor and Joe Millionaire, neither of which I ever watch. Fear Factor I had to stop on because for each stunt, they had a hottie that kept taking her clothes off. The guy she was competing against got to keep his clothes on, which of course I think is fair. Then I remembered that it's February sweeps, so the hottie has to take her clothes off.

Joe Millionaire I just didn't get. With all the promos before the show, even I knew the big surprise was going to be giving Joe (or Evan, I guess) money. What else could it be? I'm not sure how people managed to get hooked on the showfor a season, I had a hard time watching it for an hour. But, now it's over, and we can all wait for Joe Millionaire 2, or maybe Jane Millionaire. Or even better, they'll do the reverse and have 20 women vie for the affection of a guy they thinkonly makes $19,000/year, but he's really worth $50 million. They could call it Joe Sixpack.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
