The Joy of Sci Fi

03.07.2003

Being a collector of movies, along with being a nerd, I have theatrical posters decorating my bedroom. Usually it's movies that I like, regardless of how well the movie did at the box office.

One such poster I have is of Johnny Mnemonic. I was looking at it this morning and noticed part of the tagline was "320 Gigabytes of stolen data wetwired directly into his brain." Back in 1995, 320 GB was a huge chunk of data storage. Yesterday, Steve was talking about a 320 GB Drive being available. Now the movie won't be nearly as exciting and futuristic for me.

Yeah, I know, me and 2 other people are all that ever watched it...

Coming In Later

03.06.2003

I've decided to start coming into work a little bit later. I've been working 6:00 - 3:00, but things start to break around 2:00 (when they do break, that is). So now I'm trying to do more of the side and personal stuff in the morning by still getting up at 5:00, and then comingin to work around 9:00.

Day 1. I remember why I usually come in early. I get to work and some prices aren't what they should be (because I never got them in the first place). In addition, my really cool black box has a glitch in it (stupid Subase and time stamps). Follow that up with another batch of sql where I forgot a column in my where clause. Nice'n'hectic.

Maybe I should go back to coming in early?

Nerding Out Star Trek Style

03.05.2003

Rambling on about birthdays yesterday made me notice something a little quirky. Jerry shares his birthday with DeForest Kelley, Dr. McCoy for those of you that disn't know. While I don't share an actual birthdate with them, March is also the birth month of James Doohan (March 3), William Shatner (March 22), and Leonard Nimoy (March 26).

Whew, now I need to go watch a sporting event and talk to a girl, make sure the nerd factor hasn't gone up too high.

Hi hottie, hows'about joining me in a mind meld!. Nope, that won't work.

Jerry No Longer Old Timer

03.04.2003

Today is the day of the year that I cease calling Jerry an old timer, mainly because today I turn as old as he is.

I share this birthday with a couple of people. Chastity Bono, daughter of Sonny and Cher, was not only born today, but the same year as I was. Patsy Kensit, who I mainly remember from Lethal Weapon 2 (because she got nekkid!) was born today in '68. More important than all of those, today is also the birthday of Laura Kimes, one of my friends from the old Birmingham days. Chastity and Patsy I can skip, but I'm glad Laura's my birthday buddy!

Putting Things Off

03.03.2003

At the first of the year I promised myself that I was going to replace the couch and chair in my living room (after 4 years of plopping down, the fake leather has had it). I had been looking off and on for a good six months, but I couldn't find "the perfect" replacement. After New Year's, it was just time to replace it all with the first thing I liked.

Except I coudln't find anything I liked.

Enter Mom. Over the weekend I helped her pick up a chair for her living room, and along the way saw a couch that I had seen about a year ago in another store and really liked (but it wasn't perfect, so of course I didn't get it then). After some quick talking, some schmoozing, and a haggle or two, I now have (on the way at least) not 1, but 2 couches on the way this coming Saturday. With any luck, the ottoman I had to get them to order will be here then also. Finally, after 3months I'm moving on with the whole furniture thing.

Next on the list, me and Jerry tear apart the house and install some Pergo! But definitley later. Got to keep putting off something.

Today is 03/03/03. Kind of neat, in an overtly nerdy way. Next nerd date: 03/04/05.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
