More R/C Fun

03.14.2003

I picked up a new toy Wednesday. The last of what I can claim as a birthday present (I'll have to come up with a better excuse from now on). I picked up a Kyosho Mini-Z Racer, in this case a Porsche. I've been wanting a smaller r/c car to play with inside, and this one was the right size and the right price.

Although I hadn't seen on before I bought it, it is evidentlya popular little brand of car. I found a portal that linked to people selling parts and customizing the cars. They're 1/28 scale, so people have been modifying model car kits to fit the chassis. Sounds like even more fun! Now I've got to track down an A Team van or Batmobile. I'm going to do it, you know I am.

Updated Movietime

03.13.2003

After months of putting it off, I finally updated my DVD Listing last night. It took me an hour and a half, and I ended up adding almost 40 movies, but it's done!

The sad part is, in that stack of almost 40, there were at least 11 that were still in the shrinkwrap. Granted, some like The Program and Braken Arrow were movies that I've seen years ago and just now gotten, but a couple of them, like Knockaround Guys (which probably sucks) and I-Spy, I haven't had a chance to watch. I need a good rainy weekend to do some catching up!

Gettin Crunked Up

03.12.2003

The other night I paused my flipping of channels to watch a little MTV. It was one of those rare moments where they were actually playing music videos instead of a Real World/Road Rules/Diary/Making the Band/Video/Dinner marathons that they usually have. When I paused, I saw a video by Sean Paul that was fairly bouncy in a dance/Jamaican groove. My first thought was that all of Sean Paul's songs probably sound the same, but itwas bouncy nonetheless.

A quick Kazaa query later and I was listening to "Get Busy", the song I had seen the video for. After listening for a few minutes, I realized I didn't know half of what he was saying. A google searchlater and I had found the lyrics to the song. I must definitely be getting old after my birthday last week, because even with the lyrics, I still only understand about half of what he's saying!

Maybe I should just go listen to some MC Chris. That'll make me feel better. Then I'll be down again!

Gametime

03.11.2003

I came across a link to preview the Trivial Pursuit 20th Anniversary Edition. I actually bought the game about a month ago (and trounced Gina's butt!). I generally suck at traditional Trivial Pursuit, but with this edition I've been around for all of the questions. I do ok until it's time for the sports questions. Then I still suck.

Gina's Mom got me the multimedia edition of Mad Gab. No, it's not a computer game. The phonetic clues are hints to movies, tv, and song titles. For example, "Leaf it to beef her" is "Leave it to Beaver". I've been gradually getting into a board game mode, and this makes a good addition.

Operation Couch Mover

03.10.2003

Saturday Jerry and I moved couches. Out with the old, in with the new. To make life easier, I rented my first U-Haul to move the couches. Sure, it was overkill, but it seemed easier in the long run than trying to figure out how to strap a couch into my truck when I know it's not going to fit.

It's at this point when people tell me that I should have gotten a bigger truck. I got a small truck so I wouldn't be called upon to help people move. So far, it hasn't worked. I should have gotten a bigger truck anyway.

Saturday afternoon I go to the local storage place (ie across my backyard) and ask about getting a truck. 25 minutes later, I have a truck. It should have taken 5 minutes (I could see the truck from where I was standing), but it took 25. The people behind the counter seemed amazed when I told them that I would need the truck "for about an hour" because I was only going 6 miles. Round trip. But finally I got the truck and went off to get my new couches.

... where we had to wait about 10 minutes to load up the couches. Finally they were loaded, driven to the house, and promptly unloaded. Jerry told me we probably spent more time waiting than we did any actual moving. He's right, but it sure did go easier.

The last time I bought furniture the delivery charge was $50. After taking the U-Haul back, the charge was just under $40 (I got the $15 insurance for my 6 mile trip). Since I didn't havethe truck too long, and it took so long for them to do the paperwork, the people I rented it from told me not to worry about the gas. How much gas could it use in 6 miles? So in my mind, I still came out a little cheaper for the convenience.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
