Today is my last full time day at Open Biosystems. In 9 months we've gone from nothing to a fully developed website with online ordering, backend automated workflow, and some really cool tool that only true geeks can enjoy. I've ingrained enough "Russ-ness" into the site that I get to stay on in an on-call/part time position for a while. A long while I hope, I like working for Brian.
Looking back, there's a lot of code I wish I had done differently. A shopping cart that I wish was dumber - as it is it's a key part to the workflow system, which makes it difficult to add products that don't fit into the current workflow. There are things I'm proud of - the black box that pushes things through the workflow works great.
I've still got 2 sites I'm contracting for, plus the part time stuff for Open Bio, so I should stay busy. On the 31st, I start my new job with Jerry, where we can once again wreck havoc in tandem!
Today is also Brandi's birthday. She turns the ripe old age of 31 today. Plus, she's a grandmother (well, a step grandmother, but I think that still counts). So happy b'day Bran, you're now officially an old fart well into your 30's!
Today was the Open Bio trip to the hobby store for spare parts. We all needed replacement wings for our Fighterbirds, some of us needed more than a simple wing (some of us needed two). While there, I got a new body for my Mini-Z, the Porsche body having fallen on hard times in the past week. And since I was there, I got some wheels and tires.
After getting back to the office, everyone installed their new equipment and we went out to do battle. Once out in the field, we all noticed it was a little brezzy, but didn't think much about it. Foreshadowing. Makes life exciting, doesn't it?
A quick toss and my plane was in the air. Zipping toward the trees. I turned hard and right (away from the tress), and the stiff breeze caught my plane and made it rise high while turning right. It went so fast and so high, that I lost it in the sun. About the time I let off the throttle, I saw the plane leave the bright spot of the sun....
.... and crash into a tree, about 30 feet up. Lodged in good, too. It's been months since I flew my plane into a tree. I thought I was getting better. Oh well, I guess a strong wind is better than me. That's why I'm starting to concentrate more on cars. Fewer losses to trees.
About an hour later, Rod from AGI showed up with my plane. It seems Rod's a skilled shot with a thick piece of branch. Now I can try and lose it again tomorrow!
I didn't know it, but the background for the navigation over there to the right wasn't showing up right for everyone using IE. After moving a background tag froma table row to a table cell, everything should be copacetic now.
As you can tell, I don't have a whole lot going on right now.
I discovered a little something in my land of wirelessness and radio waves last night.
While waiting for some files to upload, I was playing with my r/c car (I had a lot of files to move around). After the files were finished, I found that my cordless trackball wasn't tracking. My wireless keyboard wasn't keying. I had just changed batteries a month ago, so I didn't think it could be the batteries. The last time this happened, a quick reboot fixed everything.
This time it didn't.
Getting ready to get into some prime investigation, I turned the controller for the car off, then everything began to miraculously work again! I played with the controller a little. Controller on, pc hosed. Controller of't play well together.
Happy St Patricks Day!
This is traditionally the day that I don't wear green just to see if I'll get pinched. I'm starting to think poeple stop pinching around the 10th grade, but I'm still holding out hope.
As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).
Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
