I was going to put something deep and thoughtful about how a year ago today it was announced that ResGen would be closing, but it's hard to put into words all the thoughts and emotions that it brings up.
Jer does a good job putting it into words.
Even though I tried to avoid it by staying at home the first part of last week, it seems Jer has caught my bug and progressed to the fever stage. I tried to keep it to myself. I stayed at homeand hacked and coughed and layed there while the bed spun - my sure sign of a fever. But Jer just has to catch my cooties. This is the same man who had perfect attendence at school up until our senior year. He used to never get sick! I guess now I can't cough around him without giving him the flu. I feel so ashamed.
Week #3 of a new camtoon finds us on the verge of some major chair wacking. I promise. It's coming.
It also seems that Jer has caught my cooties. I'll bet he's really mad at me. He's not talking to me, and he's only a foot away. I wonder if there's a way for me to make it up to him?
Afternoon Update - Jer has placed some sort ofcurse on me that has opened up my sinuses something fierce. Damn him and his sinus cursory ways!
There was a time when all I read was science fiction. I'm not sure why, but it was the only genre that could hold my interest. I saw where this years Nebula Awards were announced, andI managed to have not only read none of the books, but only recognized 1 author (Neil Gaiman), and him I only know because he's authored a few comic books.
Somewhere along the way of the past few years, I've just lost an interest in reading cience fiction. My old age has turned me toward biographies (mostly wrestlers, god help me) and more "popular fiction". I really like the books of Po Bronson. No other authors have quite caught myeye with consistent work yet.
I haven't given up on science fiction completely, I've just turned more picky. The last one I was engrossed in was Neil Stephensons Cryptonomicon, not assci-fi as I'm used to, but a great read that intertwines the past and near future. Cryptonomicon is supposed to be the first of a trilogy, and I've been anxiously awaiting the next book since finishing the first book (which I think was over 900 pages).
As it is, I've been stuck in the land of graphic novels to fill my reading time.
I was playing another round of googling my name, but with an added twist this time. Thanks to an errant phone number look up on Yahoo, I saw that a Russell Spears existed in Pensacola. Hoping to (maybe) one day move to Pensacola, I thought I would see if I could find out anything else about Other-Russell. The only thing I could find was that he plays volleyball. The club he plays with is slightly ironic - the Blue Thunder Volleyball Club - because Blue Thunder was the nickname Jer and I gave the old Camaro back in the old high school days.
Maybe Other-Russell is really me from the future, and I've come back in time to warn myself to not do something. Like catch this cold I've got, that would have been a good thing to warn me of.
As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).
Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
