I've been waiting for over a year and a half for ADT to call and offer their security service. Ever since they called the last time (on Christmas Eve Eve) and just got totally thrown off their script, I've been waiting for them to call back and see how much fun I could have with them.
Saturday at 8:00PM I got the call.
Me:Hello?
Cute Voiced Girl On Phone: Hello, Mr Spears?
Me:Yep.
Cute Voiced Girl On Phone:Hi, this is [some name I quickly forgot] from ADT.
[I start to get giddy]
Cute Voiced Girl On Phone:I won't take up much of your time, but we're going to have some people in your area next week ... [blah blah sales pitch, I really wasn't listening]... Does that sound like something you would be interested in?
Me:No, not really.
Cute Voiced Girl On Phone:Ok. If you ever change your mind you can contact us at our 800-number. Hope you have a good night.
And that was it. No telling me how much it could save on house insurance. No badgering that they were going to be in my area repeatedly. No questioning whehter or not I had thought about a home security systems before.
I wait a year and a half and they suck the fun right out of telemarketing calls! Irks me to no end!
Yes, July 4th. With any luck everybody is at home and not seeing this until Monday.
To celebrate our freedom from the British, I ask why are British headlines so hard to understand? The headline reads "WHY NODDY FAN STEVEN HAS BEEN ORDERED TO BURN HIS OUTFIT AND SCRAP PARP-PARP." Noddy? Parp-Parp?
Thanks to Jerry, I took a
Just for fun yesterday, I signed up on the national Do Not Call Registry, even though I said I wasn't. It was amazingly simple. All of 2 steps.
Soon afterwards, I found this story of a man what called his telemarketer 100 times because they just kept on calling. That's the quirky kind of thing you hear that makes people sitting around in a bar cheer. Hear hear!
On a more serious note, a man accused of scamming people on eBay had been accused of
With the passing of the Do Not Call Registry to prevent telemarketers from calling you, over 10 million people have registered so far. That's a lot of people to not call. People generally think of telemarketers as annoying, pushy people. I tend to think of them as a chance to have fun.
I'm usually not mean, I just like to see if I can get them off their script and then see what happens. Whether it's asking if they have an annoying automatic dialer (like I did a couple of weeks ago), just saying "no" no matter how long they keep asking, or coming up with something off the wall (like Elaine telling the long distance telemarketer she had no phone, while talking to him on the phone!).
Maybe I'm just a glutton, but think of all the out of work telemarketers that are going to be a burden on our society when they don't even have a chance to call and offer us a great deal on a vacation.
Or magazine subscription.
Or septic tank cleaner (I actually had that one once).
Or family pictures.
Ok, maybe a lack of telemarketers isn't such a bad thing after all.
I haven't been the best camtoon maker lately, so I'm skipping a day. I tried making one for today, but it just wasn't funny (and if you've read some of the ones I've made, you can only imagine how not funny it's got to be for me to not put it up).
In it's place, I give you a little something we were playing around with in the offic last week. The introduction of JerHulk!
I've got some good ideas for the camtoons, it's just a little more involved than usual and not something I can whip up in half an hour. If you really want something funny, I've gotten hooked onthe Strong Bad Emails at Homestar Runner. You have to read a couple and get familiar with some of the characters, but I've had belly laughs over some of their flash animations.
As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).
Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
