Star Trekdom

01.21.2005

There are some things in life that I want that I leave for eBay. Those little things that I wish to possess that aren't worth full price. Or even half price sometimes (I'm watching you Backyard Wrestling 2). I've been picking up various seasons of the Star Trek series on eBay and through Amazon resellers, so I've been getting those at a discount, too. I've managed to build up quite a little Star Trek DVD collection.

I've also gotten an assortment of Star Trek video games over the years. My favorite was probably Star Trek 25th Anniversary Game, mainly because each mission was set up like an episode of the series (I never did get all the way through that one...). I can't discount the Starfleet Command series, although I can't get any of them to accept my cd key and get to the point of playing them again!

My latest addition to arrive yesterday in my mailbox is the deeply discounted Star Trek video game world is Star Trek: Shattered Universe. It's a starship combat game set in the mirror universe of Star Trek. It sounds hokey. Flying a starship with PS2 controls is usually more of a dogfighting scenario. Most of the reviews have been bad, but I just need to see how bad it is for myself.

Old Timer Time

01.20.2005

Today marks the 36th birthday of my good close personal friend, Chas. Once again, we enter the 6-week period of me calling him "Old Timer". To this day I think of Chili's "Old Timer" cheeseburger whenever calling him "Old Timer", but they no longer have the burger. Maybe I should start calling him "Baby Back Ribs"?

We now enter the realm of knowing each other for 21 years. We have recollections that are now old enough to drink. We've shared hobbies, homes (well, home), money, food, women, wine, spare change, and deep dark secrets that can be used as blackmail to this day should the need ever arise. So happy birthday buddy, ya old timer!

Stone Cold Hollywood

01.19.2005

Later today the WWE is to make an official announcement regarding a movie deal with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Here's a synopsis of their first movie:

Stone Cold Steve Austin's first project for WWE Films will be The Condemned(TM), written by Rob and Andrew Hedden. The film will be executive produced by Vince McMahon and George Vrabeck. The film will be produced by Joel Simon in association with Sidestreet/New Wave Entertainment. The story deals with a cop on death-row who is given a second chance when chosen to compete on a deadly reality show. Pursued by ruthless killers, his survival and the key to his freedom depend on him surviving long enough to take down the one person responsible for putting him behind bars.

I've been wondering when they would remake the Running Man...

Joust!

01.18.2005

One of my favorite arcade games from the old school days (evidently circa '82) was Joust. You were a knight atop an ostrich fighting other knights. Hit them from above and you win. Get hit from above, you lose. It's a simple concept that you can play online now, but the original still holds some fond memories. And thanks to everybody reissuing old arcade games for the current consoles I can play it, plus a whole bunch of other games I used to suck at, in the privacy of my own home.

I don't know why, but I remember playing the original a lot at Stanleos. I don't remember going to Stanleos that much, but that seemed to be the place for me to play Joust. Although the graphics show their 20 years of age, the simplistic fun of the game is still there. I put the disc in the PS2 and managed to waste away a good hour playing. Maybe I'll get carried away and get a full sized version to take up some room?

What To Do, What To Do...

01.17.2005

My goal for this year has been to make better use of my free time. So far I've been doing a pretty good job, especially on my trek to "Fit in a Porsche: 2006". I've got karate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On those nights I've sequestered some "learn how to write my wrestling game" and quality tv time with Gina scheduled. On Wednesday nights I've now got a yoga class. If I actually use the weekends for household chores and some needed down time, I'm left with Monday night (traditionally wrestling night) and Friday night (traditionally "it's the end of the week/I don't want to do anything).

I've got more things on my list that I can or need to get done. There are a handful of websites that either need updating or creating. Some of them are freebies, some could generate a little extra income. I've still got some household projects to finish up (the cleaning of the garage has gotten stalled by some cold weather). When was the last time I read a real book, devoid of any programming tips?

Before x-mas I made a list of chores and managed to make my way through most of it. It seems it may be time to update the list and once again get to chorin'.

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
