Joust!

01.18.2005

One of my favorite arcade games from the old school days (evidently circa '82) was Joust. You were a knight atop an ostrich fighting other knights. Hit them from above and you win. Get hit from above, you lose. It's a simple concept that you can play online now, but the original still holds some fond memories. And thanks to everybody reissuing old arcade games for the current consoles I can play it, plus a whole bunch of other games I used to suck at, in the privacy of my own home.

I don't know why, but I remember playing the original a lot at Stanleos. I don't remember going to Stanleos that much, but that seemed to be the place for me to play Joust. Although the graphics show their 20 years of age, the simplistic fun of the game is still there. I put the disc in the PS2 and managed to waste away a good hour playing. Maybe I'll get carried away and get a full sized version to take up some room?

What To Do, What To Do...

01.17.2005

My goal for this year has been to make better use of my free time. So far I've been doing a pretty good job, especially on my trek to "Fit in a Porsche: 2006". I've got karate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On those nights I've sequestered some "learn how to write my wrestling game" and quality tv time with Gina scheduled. On Wednesday nights I've now got a yoga class. If I actually use the weekends for household chores and some needed down time, I'm left with Monday night (traditionally wrestling night) and Friday night (traditionally "it's the end of the week/I don't want to do anything).

I've got more things on my list that I can or need to get done. There are a handful of websites that either need updating or creating. Some of them are freebies, some could generate a little extra income. I've still got some household projects to finish up (the cleaning of the garage has gotten stalled by some cold weather). When was the last time I read a real book, devoid of any programming tips?

Before x-mas I made a list of chores and managed to make my way through most of it. It seems it may be time to update the list and once again get to chorin'.

Vrooom Underground

01.12.2005

Over the weekend I started a new video game (like I don't have enough to do). I started playing Need For Speed Underground 2. Yes, yet another driving game. But this time it's more than a driving game, for your rewards for completing certain tasks are to bling up your car. I'm not sure if "bling up your car" is something that you can really say. I'm 35 and live in the boonies.

I enjoyed the first game because it had a variety of races, most of which I had never heard of - what the hell is "drifting"? - but I came to enjoy the variety. It was a nice change from the turning left of NASCAR games. With the new game they've added a new type of race along with the ability to just drive around the game world. I've found that it's oddly relaxing to just drive around. And then if I get bored I just run over some innocent AI driver.

I've got to figure out how to go bling up the Explorer now.

Hiyaaa!

01.06.2005

Today was my first day of karate class in the past 25 years (at least). I noticed a couple of things in the first 10 minutes of class:

Now, with all of that said, I actually enjoyed the class. It was some good excercise for me (I really think just breathing is good excercise for me sometimes). I seemed to remember some of my form from when I took karate those 25 years ago. So, I think I'm going to stick with it, at least long enough for me to get some of those fancy pajamas.

Ma!

01.05.2005

Today is the day my mom turns 58. The last numbered birthday I remember for her was when she turned 47. I guess I won't actually keep track of the next one until she hits 69.

So Happy Birthday Mom!

Geez, but 58 is gettin' old....

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
