Random Surfing

02.27.2003

Not much going on, so I thought I would throw up (ugh, just skip the obvious pun) a couple of news bits I've run across.

Internet Pornography Meets its Match. My favorite quote is "We have created a safer way to surf by building an effective software tool that provides relationship-based accountability for online behavior. It will assist in healthy life-change and lead people to view more appropriate content on the Internet." This, of course, goes totally against the purpose of the internet as put forth in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the internet is a place for people to share porn and bitch about movies.

Telezapper is now a bookend. A company has come out with technology to beat the Telezapper. Jerry's Dad, also known affectionatly as "Old Man Poplin" around these parts, is the only person I know that actually has a Telezapper, and he's said it works pretty good. I wonder if the companies that buy the Telezapper killer will go back and call all the people that they were zapped by?

Evil Hobbies

02.26.2003

Yesterday after lunch Jerry and I wandered in to the latest geek store, Hobby Town USA. This is mainly a bad thing to do because they carry lots of r/c cars and planes. I like r/c cars and planes. I've wrecked many of them.

The first thing that caught my eye was a 1/18 scale BMW. It's just small enough to look really fun. More power than the little Hot Wheels sized car, small enough to still be able to play drive around inside. May have to think this over for a while.

still thinking....

Can't Sleep

02.25.2003

This was one of those morning when I just couldn't go back to sleep. I wok eup about 2:30 this morning and knew it was going to do me no good to try and go back to sleep. Trying to make the best of it, I went ahead and got up and started doing some of those things that I had put off over the weekend.

Dishes, sorting laundry, paying bills, even working a little on the Fuqua Osborn site. It's ended up being a productive morning. Scary that I had done so much by 5:00. Now I have to see how much of the day I make it through before I start to constantly yawn. That's the part I hate about waking up so early. It's always in the back of my mind, so I mentally talk myself into getting tired a lot earlier than I should.

More Ramblings

02.24.2003

I came across a quick blurb about how you can be arrested by Beans & Franks in Memphis. It might be a little pixilated, but here's a pic of Beans and Franks.

In trying to broaden my web development mind, today I delve into smarty, hopefully to find something useful.

Movie Games

02.21.2003

After inadvertantly having fun chaining movie titles together yesterday, I started looking for a good movie trivia game.

I've been looking for a good movie trivia game for a while. Unfortunately, most of the fall under either some form of charades or it's all Disney trivia (and I suck at Disney trivia). While walking though CompUSA, I spied a game called Scene It. They have sample questions available online, and it mostly reminds me of You Don't Know Jack, which I played more than I want to admin on the PC.

The drawback is that it's $50, and I just don't think it's really worth that much. There's one for sale on eBay that's at $34 including shipping right now. That may be about the right price...

Blog Archive

As always, correct spelling is optional in any blog entry. Keep in mind that any links more than a year old may not be active, especially the ones pointing back to Russellmania (I like to move things around!).

Tags have been added to posts back to 2005. There may be an occasional old blog that gets added to the tag list, but in reality what could be noteworthy from that far back?
